Hans Some: Don't look at me!

some250On Sunday 30th of September at 11 am a new exhibition begins in the Klein-Schreuder Sculpture Garden of sculptures by Hans Some. At the opening Hans will talk about his work, accompanied by a glass of wine and some snacks.

Don't look at me, look at my work! – could be Hans' statement.

Born in 1968 in Munich, Germany, he moved as a young man to West Berlin, leaving behind a conservative Bavaria. But even in the enclosed Berlin, surrounded by the wall of the GDR, he soon felt limited. This encouraged him to make his first journey to Spain more than 30 years ago, where he eventually settled in the year 2000, opening his own studio near Alicante.

In the meantime, he discovered the multiple possibilities of metal design and expression in the studio of sculptor Stefan Herzog, Munich. Here he studied the basis of classic techniques like casting, welding and forging, which left its indelible mark all the way through to his most recent works. This was the moment he found his vocation: the confrontation with the material, employing great energy and strength to mould the metal, reaching and exceeding its own resistance.

Almost all are forged and welded unique works – only on a few occasions casted replicas have been commissioned. His work has been exhibited in numerous individual and collective exhibitions, and some is included in several public and private collections.

As usual, all the exhibited sculptures are for sale – the foundation does not require any commission.
