Klein-Schreuder Sculpture Garden

Daeyoung Kang

insectcollageLast summer we, Johannes and Johanna, the founders of the Klein-Schreuder foundation, visited Siena in Italy. There we saw an exhibition showing an invasion of steel insects by the Korean artist, Daeyoung Kang.

The idea behind the insect invasion is the elimination of vertebrates, fishes, birds and reptiles that are not useful to humans as food, friends or laboratory animals.

Insects appear to be relatively resistant to humans. In large groups, they take revenge at mankind. Regrettably it has become trendy to consume insects, which may mean that the revenge will not take place after all.

We have tried to book the exhibition for the sculpture garden, but this was financially out of reach. As a very much appreciated gesture, Mr Kang has now donated two steel insects to the Klein-Schreuder Foundation and they now form part of the permanent exhibition.

The insects can now be admired in our sculpture garden.
