Klein-Schreuder Sculpture Garden

Zélia Rocha: Metamorphosis

rocha250Although the garden is now closed due to the corona virus restrictions, we will have our exhibition of Zélia Rocha's works in place in the garden from April 5th as originally planned. Unfortunately there will be no festive inauguration this time.

Zélia Rocha is Portuguese, a teacher of foreign languages and a long term artist. She has participated in over a hundred exhibitions, working in polymer and iron. The latter is not so strange, as her father was a blacksmith. She loves the colour of rust, all her iron works are made of old, re-used materials.

“I am attracted to iron pieces like old tools, that are put away and are broken or no longer used, and am inspired to give them a new life," says Zélia.

"I keep collecting old chunks of iron, and all of a sudden, I grab a few and match them creating a new piece by hammering, sawing and welding together. This doing transports me to an ironic, dreamlike orb, in which I see the world as a cleaner and more organized place".

At this moment we regrettably don't know when we'll be allowed to re-open the sculpture park. But as soon as the corona restrictions have been lifted you're most welcome to come and see or buy Zélia Rocha's works and to visit the garden again.

Update: You can now download a catalogue (PDF) where you can see Zélia Rocha's works as they are exhibited in the garden.
